South Bend September Trip Recap
Last week the full Nevo team met for an action-packed weekend in South Bend, Indiana. We were so happy to see some of our clients and so many new faces at Thursday night’s networking event. The event was held in a storefront owned and leased by one of our clients– Sarah and Jenni, founders of Penny Hill Homes. Many South Benders showed up to snack and network. The best of both worlds. Mary MacAfee, Director of Engagement And Economic Empowerment, and her team of rockstars, hosted Neighborhood Evolution and welcomed us all at the event.
Friday, day 2, was filled with a full schedule of one-on-one consultations with small scale developers of SB. Throughout the day, we consulted 12 clients. We walked through millions of dollars of projected appraised values. It was tiring, inspiring, and ultimately a productive day.
Day 3, our last day, Nevo presented a “Why Design Matters” workshop that featured some slides from our clients, Charity and Rachel, of Herstoric Development. We learned about why design matters, how we can add unique personal touches, while still being cost effective and why trees are important on our public sidewalks. We even bonded over trash cans. Neighborhood Evolution cherishes our time in South Bend and are excited to see it’s continued progress. It is wonderful to see a city that truly cares about community engagement and empowering their small scale developers by providing a plethora of grants, tools, and most importantly, support. See you next time South Bend, thank you for your hospitality.
